Hi this is Karri Kat

And I have a question for you guys..Are you in period pain right now?

There was a time, when I was always in period pain.

Moon time was NOT a good time for me.

I was also diagnosed with endometriosis, and I've learned a lot about how to heal endometriosis and how to help alleviate the pain using a plant based raw food diet with herbs.

I've managed to figure out a way to sort of take care of yourself around this time. And you know, to give women a lot of credit, a lot of this type of stuff is kind of intuitive. Usually when its a woman's period they go for, you know…what makes them feel good! And that's because by nature this is a sort of "cleansing time". You know, where put on your cozy sweater, and you try to be alone. And you lay down and you try to feed yourself things that make you feel the best.

"this is a sort of "cleansing time". You know, where put on your cozy sweater, and you try to be alone."

The stereotypes of women when they have period and PMS is that they are 'bitchy all the time' and that 'all periods do are make you bitchy.' But before I explain to you what you can do to alleviate your period pain, I kind of want to clarity some things about periods in general that maybe a lot of women will agree with…

As women, our periods are very centralized on the waning and waxing of the moon. When we are at out highest peak of fertility, which is when we are ovulating, biologically it is proven science that we go out there, we dress a little sexier, we have a bit more red in our cheeks, we are primed to mate. There is an opposite to that. And that's called period time.

"Where the days leading up to your period are basically sort of like this overall cleansing of all the things that you need to face as a woman, that you need to fix in your life, or your not putting up with anyone. You're cleaning house essentially."

So Anytime you get in a argument with your partner during your your period, it's because essentially your body is telling you "don't put up with anything right now, you need to clean out your system, clean out your life, clean out your relationship" by initiating this sort of energy that is saying "Hey this isn't good for me". Because that is essentially what the period means.

"...It's a time when a woman needs to nourish themselves, take care of themselves. because this temple, this body, is made to give life to another creature."

And what happens, is that by being a vessel for another creatures life, you in turn have to take care of yourself on a very strict level. Which means biologically we were made for that type of energy. We were made to want to keep things nourishing.  That energy is there for a biological reason to be able to have the optimal environment to be able to protect a young-en. And I am not saying everyone has the desire to have kids or that every woman is fertile. There is nothing wrong with that ,But by definition periods are a mechanism of fertility. If there is an egg in there or its leaving you can potentially have a baby. Keep that in mind when a man tells you "Hey your being bitchy." You are doing your biological job by trying to keep house basically.

Try to keep a Journal of all the things that pop up in your head, all the insecurities, all the anger you get around your period, because you know estrogen is a powerful hormone, and it can guide you into this fierce transformation.

So basically Women don't PMS the whole time. It's called premenstrual syndrome, so that buildup in estrogen usually ends the day they get their period. It can be overwhelming.

And then your period happens And then thats when…the brain fog, your body retaining its water… ends up stopping and your body starts reversing gears and starts trying to ELIMINATE the estrogen. The way it does this is through your detoxification pathways, your sweat, and your liver. Depending on how easy it is for your body to eliminate this estrogen from your body is a direct reflection of how much period pain you are going to have.

"...and your body  starts trying to ELIMINATE the estrogen. The way it does this is through your detoxification pathways, your sweat, and your liver. Depending on how easy it is for your body to eliminate this estrogen from your body is a direct reflection of how much period pain you are going to have."

When you start getting any sort of period pain, stop thinking in terms of inflammation. Start thinking in terms of what you can do for your liver.

When we think about estrogen, there is no perfect humans body... that isn't exposed to anything detrimental that can hurt the liver, alcohol, fat, stress…ALL these things can affect the liver and its ablility to function properly to release the estrogen.

We can't release the estrogen the way out bodies really want to, and the estrogen ends up building up in our blood. And it literally builds up in our endocrine system and blood stream flooding ourselves with excess estrogen, making us feel like we're dying.

"...We can't release the estrogen the way out bodies really want to, and the estrogen ends up building up in our blood. And it literally builds up in our endocrine system and blood stream flooding ourselves with excess estrogen, making us feel like we're dying".

This needs to stop. And it's by focusing on our liver.

Well what can we do?....

.."Raw foods is a really great way to start, because it's a great way to start chipping away at our liver problems."

Raw foods is a really great way to start, because it's a great way to start chipping away at our liver problems. Just eliminating from your diet meat, dairy, grains, will greatly improve your odds of having a functioning happy liver, Especially since the cholesterol from a diet full of meat, builds up in your gall bladder in the form of gall stones. These stones make it hard for your liver to do its job adequately, it just want stuff to go in and out of it, and if there are tiny beads of cholesterol blocking the elimination of toxins you end up recycling the toxins back into your blood stream!  And all those things you needed to get out of your body…are just going to recycle it back into your blood stream.  And then your body gets fat trying to protect you from the toxins it couldn't get rid of. It's a big not so fun party. Its going to be sluggish, its going to be backed up…

Its a lot easier to start getting rid of period pain when you go raw, but it's not the bigger picture. You need to eat foods and herbs that help your liver out.

"...Its a lot easier to start getting rid of period pain when you go raw, but it's not the bigger picture."

You need to eat foods and herbs that help your liver out. This is not nuts. If your a raw foodist and you are going to get your period ,the worst thing you can do is eat a ton of  nuts."

You need to eat foods and herbs that help your liver out. This is not nuts. If your a raw foodist and you are going to get your period ,the worst thing you can do is eat a ton of  nuts."

Because the nuts have fat and they will still burden your liver. You want to keep your liver like a well oiled machine, things just going in and out, in and out.

"You want to keep your liver like a well oiled machine, things just going in and out, in and out."

The ways you can do this are…

  1. Exercise

  2. eliminate all: meat, nuts and fat before your period. With the exception of chia (helps aid in elimination and has omegas 3-6)

  3. stick to green leafy veggies, your lemon, your watermelon, melons, dandelion leaves, cilantro, beets, anything green…Eat these foods the days before your period.  (And you will know when you are going to get your period after you have been raw for a while just by the change in your skin texture and you increase in introversion.)

.....and when those things start happening, it's cleanse time!
And what I mean by that is

You want to shove your face with everything green. Everything RICH dark green.

you got that?

You want to shove your face with everything green. Everything RICH dark green.

It's my first day of my period right now, and I'm like seriously not doubled over in pain and it's a miracle...

What I did was the days before my period, I had a lot of herbal tea with lemon juice, some chard with lemon juice and some sprouted wild rice. And just kept eating the greens, eating the greens…just more greens. I didn't eat too much fat, just like a chia pudding. I also had some nettle tea one night because it's an anti-inflammatory, contains a lot of minerals that will nourish your uterus and bones so you don't become anemic on your period. I also drank a cup of raspberry leaf as a uterus tonic, but I don't drink it too often or in excess because it tends to carry aluminum in its leaves.

"...Dandelion root also, to cleanse and detoxify my liver, but you want to drink it before your period to give your liver a running start on the detoxing, and keep it happy before your period."

Dandelion root also, to cleanse and detoxify my liver, but you want to drink it before your period to give your liver a running start on the detoxing, and keep it happy before your period.
I noticed when I loaded up on the greens and the nettles I feel less vulnerable or incapacitated while on the worst days on my period. A lot of times when we get our period, we feel really vulnerable. Your wits are not with you. And its really kind of scary, because we are expected to be at this certain level of capability. And when you get your period that can all just go down the drain. We we need to either find a good way to mask that vulnerability or get rid of it by making your body more stronger.

"...A lot of times when we get our period, we feel really vulnerable. Your wits are not with you. And its really kind of scary, because we are expected to be at this certain level of capability."

You want to focus on yourself right before your period. Don't use that time to focus that time on doing things that are bad for you  like eating a lot of chocolate ice-cream or something. use that time to be quite, keep to yourself, become intuitive, write, and eat foods that are really light on your body.

There are so many healing modalities. It's not just raw food that can help you. Choose ONE healing modality per day. ONE HERB PER DAY. Not two or three or four...ONE. Until you have a trained naturopath who has the experience to tell you if a herb can be combined with another herb without a interaction occuring. Also take vitamins hours away from herbs, never at the same time. Also important, don't ever mix modern medicine with herbal remedies. I've taken people to the hospital before because they decided to get experimental that way. Herbs can sometimes be as strong as the stuff you can get from the doctor and never take any of these herbs if you are pregnant or nursing unless you consult with a trained naturopath who knows about herbs.

Here is a list of foods, herbs, suppliments that have helped me heal my period pain.

Iodine   -- The ultimate healer. Helps heal endometriosis scarring. regenerates ANYTHING. Get this from sea veggies like kelp or nori strips. if you're interested in learning more about dosage, stay tuned.

Magnesium- relaxation mineral of life and love. It is probably the number one needed mineral in the body and good to keep the muscles relaxed. Especially good for period pain. I take "Metagenics" brand- Mag Glycinate. It has tablets you can easily break in half so you don't overdose on it, even though the tablets are only 25% of daily value..so it's hard to do that anyway.

Nettle Tea- For minerals, iron, anti-inflammitory properties, blood building, bone building, calming.

Dandelion Root Tea excellent coffee tasting bitter tea that cleans out your liver and aids in detoxification. Be careful to drink extra water as it can be dehydrating.

Arugula, Kale, Chard (brassica family, aids in detox)

Turmeric is an awesome one if you are just in such severe pain, and you just want something to knock that out right away. It truly is a miracle. Don't mix this with other herbs. It is a blood thinner and anti-inflammatory. Anti cancer. You will feel the turmeric work it's magic if you're in pain. Also a antidepressant because it helps reduce the inflammation in your brain and even helps your hair grow! Don't over do it.

Enzymes- to break down uterine scarring, polyps or cysts.

Raspberry leaf tonic for the uterus. High in minerals. Can have aluminum so don't over drink it, just drink a day or so before your period.

Beets excellent liver cleansing food. MAY be the ultimate liver cleansing food. It is good for the blood and the root chakra. It will rejuvenate your levels of awesome. Cannot say enough about this favorite root veggie of mine. High in iron.

Vitamin B12 In studies has been shown to aid in pms.

Chia seeds contain a perfect ratio of 3-6 omegas which help keep inflammation down in the body and in turn keep us pain free.

Caffeine  helps metabolize the estrogen out of your body at a faster rate. Good if you feel like you are literally drowning in estrogen.

lemon juice Alkalizing. Cleansing on the liver.

More tips

  • eating the greens

  • not too much fat at all. NO NUTS at least 4 days before your period

  • Chia seeds okay

  • DONT wear a bra around on on your period.

  • Take your alone time.

  • don't wear deodorant.. that can trap the estrogen in your body, since sweating is one of the main elimination pathways.

"....Get yourself a good cup of tea and a sweater that is so big that no one will want to talk to you. Go braless. Don't wear deodorant. Write in a journal, read a book, eat those greens…and over time you will get in sync with your rhythms. and  that "endometriosis" that your doctor said, it will go away."
